EREDIVISIE WEEK 32 – Saturday’s Preview & Betting Tips

Header-EredivisiePreview

Thursday he nailed a 6/5 shot and last night picked a big money maker at 15/4Will Burns returns with his selections for Saturday’s games and like all his tips, you will not see a ‘best bet’ under evens – good luck! A treble on these today would pay a massive 25/1 at Bet Victor!!

Saturday 12th April

GAE-Heerenveen

GO AHEAD EAGLES vs. HEERENVEEN (17:45 BST)

Heerenveen visit Go Ahead Eagles full of confidence after the impressive 3-0 win over PSV Eindhoven last weekend.

Marco van Basten will know this will be no easy task as Eagles have a great record at home with only Ajax, PSV and Vitesse have left Adelaarshorst with all three points so far this season. However, Heerenveen have a decent record against the Eagles, in their last seven matches in all competitions, Go Ahead are yet to defeat the Frisian side.

I think the last two statements back up our ‘best bet’ perfectly. Heerenveen are going to keep the undefeated run against Go Ahead in tact, however, they will not leave Deventer will the maximum points. Bet Victor are offering the draw at 11/4 and I can see this game ending all level at full-time.

BEST BET: Draw (11/4 – Bet Victor)

Cambuur-Vitesse

SC CAMBUUR vs. VITESSE (18:45 BST)

Peter Bosz’s side held league leaders Ajax last weekend but it also means Vitesse are without a win in four games now and their chances of finishing the season as runners-up and qualifying for Champions League football are beginning to dwindle.

Since Dwight Lodeweges left, Cambuur are yet to win a game themselves in the last three games and for Saturday’s game, caretaker manager Henk de Jong is missing three first teamers in his squad. Defender Lucas Bijker and midfielder duo Mohamed El Makrini and Marcel Ritzmaier all miss out due to suspension.

Vitesse are expected to win this game but Cambuur can be unpredictable, especially in front of their own fans. I look to the goals market for our ‘best bet’ and since the hosts are struggling to score goals as of late I see ‘Under 2.5 Goals’ giving us the most value. The best price is at Bet Victor with the price at 6/5.

BEST BET: Under 2.5 Goals (6/5 – Bet Victor)

Twente-Roda

FC TWENTE vs. RODA JC (19:45 BST)

Jon Dahl Tomasson’s Roda travel to Enschede fully aware, that this is yet another must win game, if they are to have any chances of Eredivisie survival. However, they face FC Twente whom themselves need the points if they stand any chance of finishing in second.

Twente have a massive task ahead sitting four points adrift of Feyenoord with only three games left but with Ronald Koeman’s side visiting PSV Eindhoven on Sunday, there may be a small chance.

I see Michel Janssen’s men claiming all three points but it will be a closer game than you think. With the end of the season drawing near, you can expect the unexpected and Roda are fighting for their lives, therefore for value I look for this game to close with few goals. Bet Victor have Under 2.5 Goals at a massive 21/10 and I see that as our ‘best bet’.

BEST BET: Under 2.5 Goals (21/10 – Bet Victor)

Week 31 Eredivisie Report: Kostic late winner clinches points

Header-EredivisieReport

Friday 11th April 2014

Groningen-NAC

FC GRONINGEN 2-1 NAC BREDA

Filip Kostic hit an 92nd minute solo effort to give Edwin van der Looi’s FC Groningen their fourth consecutive win in tonight’s 2-1 victory over NAC Breda.

The visitors felt robbed just before half-time when Chelsea loanee Stipe Perica hit an effort towards goal and Hans Hateboer booted the ball off the line. NAC players protested with referee Eric Braamhaar but the official waved away appeals. Video replays showed that decision was very close and may indeed have been the wrong one.

After the goal-less first half, it took ten minutes into the second half for Groningen to take the lead. Braamhaar awarded the hosts a penalty after Gill Swerts fouled Filip Kostic in the box and Nick van der Velden hit home the resulting penalty.

NAC, desperate for points, pressed for the equalising goal and Stipe Perica notched the leveller on 73 minutes. The young Croatian striker beautifully controlled a cross on his chest and smashed the ball into the net, giving Groningen goalkeeper Marco Bizot no chance of stopping.

The visitors attacked for all three points and came close on two occasions through Danny Verbeek and Perica. However, it would be Groningen to claim the maximum points two minutes into stoppage time with Filip Kostic notching his eighth goal of the season. Cutting in from the right-wing, dodging a few challenges before smashing a shot home from outside of the area.

The Eruoborg erupted as the final whistle was blown and Groningen have now virtually confirmed their berth in Europa League playoffs. Meanwhile, NAC sit only four points off the dropzone and must face the visit of RKC Waalwijk in a potential six-pointer.

TEAMS

GRONINGEN: Bizot, Hateboer, Botteghin, Wijnaldum, Burnet, Kieftenbeld, Adorjan (De Leeuw 89), Lindgren (Van Nieff 79), Van der Velden (Kirm 84), Zivkovic, Kostic.

SUBS NOT USED: Van der Lei, Clintje, Saban, Zeefuik.

GOALS: Van der Velden 55, Kostic 90+2.

BOOKINGS: Burnet 60, Kostic 88, De Leeuw 90+2.

NAC: Ten Rouwelaar, Drost, Kwakman, Gilissen (Verbeek 70), Hooi, Matic, Poepon, Perica, Swerts (Van der Weg 74), Buijs, Bodor.

EREDIVISIE WEEK 32 – Friday’s Preview & Betting Tip

Header-EredivisiePreview

After nailing a 6/5 tip last night, Will Burns returns with his selections for Friday’s game and like all his tips, you will not see a ‘best bet’ under evens – good luck!

Friday 11th April

Groningen-NAC

FC GRONINGEN vs. NAC BREDA (19:00 BST)

After failing to win any of their last eight games, NAC Breda visit FC Groningen tonight looking for points to claw themselves away from the relegation dogfight at the bottom of the Eredivisie.

Edwin van de Looi’s Groningen are looking to make it four consecutive league wins, this after going on a four game winless run and they look certain to be in the Europa League’s playoffs once the season finishes in four games time.

Although the last three games for Groningen have been all victories, they were drawing all three at the half-time whistle. Tonight’s best bet we look for this to happen again with Bet Victor offering a huge 15/4 for another repeat.

BEST BET: Draw HT/Groningen FT (15/4 – Bet Victor)

Week 31 Eredivisie Weekend Wrap-up: Ajax leave champagne on ice

Header-EredivisieReport

League leaders Ajax are yet to clinch the Eredivisie title as they were held 1-1 by Vitesse at the Gelredome on Sunday. Elsewhere, Feyenoord maintained second place and Twente in third as PSV were defeated 3-0 by Heerenveen on Saturday night.

PSV hard onderuit in Friesland en verliest zicht op CL

Saturday 5th April 2014

PSV, minus head coach Philip Cocu, fell to heavy 3-0 defeat on Saturday evening to Marco van Basten’s Heerenveen. Ernest Faber, deputising for Cocu, has now lead the Eindhoven side to two defeats in two and their aspirations of Champions League football next season have been dashed. Balil Basacikoglu netted on the half-hour mark but second half goals from Rajiv van la Parra and Alfred Finnbogason has now stuck PSV down into fifth place but are five points ahead of Heerenveen who sit a place behind them.

Twente stay in third after winning 2-0 away to NAC Breda thanks to goals from Felipe Gutiérrez and Dušan Tadić. Dropping down to fifteenth in the standings, Breda are now only four points away from the drop zone.

Go Ahead Eagles steered themselves out of relegation trouble with a 2-1 away win at Heracles. Mikhail Rosheuvel, a threat throughout and put the hosts into a first-half lead but the Eagles turned the game on its head after the interval. Midfielders Deniz Türüç and Erik Falkenburg scored the goals to move Go Ahead up to 11th place even though Jarchinio Antonia was dismissed two minutes before time.

NEC Nijmegen stay second bottom and six points from safety after being held 1-1 by manager-less SC Cambuur in a game that saw three sending-offs in four minutes. Geoffrey Castillion gave NEC the lead but Mart Dijkstra equalised just after half-time. NEC captain was sent off six minutes from time and the sides were evened up when Marcel Ritzmaier was given his second yellow minutes later. However, the relegation strugglers were reduced to nine with just two minutes remaining when Rens van Eijden received his second booking.

Vitesse, Ajax, Kelvin Leerdam, Lerin Duarte, Vitesse - Ajax

Sunday 6th April 2014

Frank de Boer’s Ajax came back from a goal down to draw 1-1 at Vitesse, however, being six points clear of Feyenoord in second, remained on track to win their fourth consecutive Eredivisie championship. The Amsterdammers fell mid-way through the first-half when Chelsea loanee Bertrand Traoré netted. Icelandic international forward Kolbeinn Sigthórsson equalized two minutes after the break to earn his side the point.

Sunday also saw the return of Italian striker Graziano Pelle to the Feyenoord side after a four-game suspension and he notched both goals in his side’s 2-0 with over RKC Waalwijk. Ronald Koeman’s men travel to PSV next weekend but look most likely to claim the second Champions League spot.

ADO Den Haag are still undefeated under Henk Fraser after smashing ten-men FC Utrecht by four goals to one. Ronald Alberg and Mike van Duinen sent Utrecht in at half-time two goals down, and Mitchell Schet and Michiel Kramer added to the tally in the second half. Utrecht saw striker Steve de Ridder dismissed after just 24 minutes for two bookings and Jens Toornstra grabbed a last minute consolation goal.

In the final game of the weekend, basement boys Roda JC held AZ Alkmaar to a 2-2 draw that yet another red card. Berry Powel put Jon Dahl Tomasson’s men ahead but AZ midfielder Markus Henriksen equalised before half-time. American striker Aron Johansson notched before the hour mark to give the visitors the lead but Guus Hupperts snatched the leveller twenty minutes from time. With just below ten minutes remaining, Guy Ramos saw red for his second bookable offence. Roda look doomed and are eight points away from safety, results next weekend could see them confirmed to the relegation play off places.

EREDIVISIE WEEK 31 – Sunday’s Preview & Betting Tips

Header-EredivisiePreview

Will Burns returns with his betting tips for Sunday’s games and like all his selections, you will not see a ‘best bet’ under evens – good luck!

Sunday 6th April

ADO-Utrecht

ADO DEN HAAG vs. FC UTRECHT (11:30 BST)

Henk Fraser, leading ADO eight games undefeated in the Eredivisie, braces the challenge of Jan Wouters’ FC Utrecht on Sunday morning.

ADO snatched an excellent 1-1 draw away to Champions League chasing Twente midweek to take ADO’s form to five draws and three wins in the last eight. You cannot look past ADO not to win this game against a Utrecht side that have not won away game in the Eredivisie since November last year.

ADO to take three points is being offered at 11/10 with Bet Victor and that is a great price for a side yet to lose under Fraser.

BEST BET: ADO to win (11/10 – Bet Victor)

Feyenoord-RKC

FEYENOORD vs. RKC WAALWIJK (13:30 BST)

Ronald Koeman’s Feyenoord are in pole position for Champions League football next season sitting in second four points clear of third-placed FC Twente.

The Rotterdam side will know that Vitesse, PSV and Twente will waiting for Koeman’s men to make a slip up but with Graziano Pellè back from suspension, I fail to see RKC Waalwijk being the side to do this.

However, RKC are well capable of scoring goals and have only failed to hit the net in four games all season. I predict they will breach the Feyenoord defence but the hosts will come out as winners. Feyenoord to be victorious with both teams to score is being offered at 6/4 by Bet Victor.

BEST BET: Feyenoord win with Both Teams to Score (6/4 – Bet Victor)

Vitesse-Ajax

VITESSE vs. AJAX (13:30 BST)

The game of the weekend takes place at the GelreDome when Ajax arrives in Arnhem to face fourth-placed Vitesse.  If Feyenoord taste defeat RKC and the league leaders beat Vitesse, Ajax could be crowned champions.

I feel Ajax will this game even though the last team to defeat the Amsterdammers was Vitesse in early November, however, that was 19 games ago. Since then, Frank de Boer’s men have gone 18 games unbeaten winning in 14 of them.

Vitesse have failed to win for three games and I would look for Ajax to add to their troubles. An Ajax win is valued at 23/20 from Bet Victor.

BEST BET: Ajax to win (23/20 – Bet Victor)

Roda-AZ

RODA JC vs. AZ ALKMAAR (15:30 BST)

The final game of the weekend sees the doomed Roda JC facing an uphill battle for Eredivisie survival against AZ Alkmaar.

Dick Advocaat’s side put in a great performance at home to Benfica on Thursday night and may be a little jaded heading to Kerkrade to face Jon Dahl Tomasson’s side, but they should have enough quality to see them claim all three points.

As AZ Alkmaar are undefeated in 18 of their last 20 matches against Roda in all competitions I see them extending that record and Bet Victor are offering 11/8 for the away win.

BEST BET: AZ Alkmaar to win (11/8 – Bet Victor)

EREDIVISIE WEEK 31 – Saturday’s Preview & Betting Tips

Header-EredivisiePreview

Will Burns returns with his betting tips for Saturday evening’s games and like all his selections, you will not see a ‘best bet’ under evens. If you place all four of these results in an accumulator – you will get odds of 115/1!!!  Good luck if you are having a punt!

Saturday 5th April

Heerenveen-PSV

HEERENVEEN vs. PSV (17:45 BST)

Ernest Faber, covering for Philip Cocu, will be unhappy with his start last weekend falling 3-2 at home to Groningen while Heerenveen should have claimed all three points against Vitesse but were held to a 2-2 draw.

One thing this game will promise will be goals. For PSV, central defender Jeffrey Bruma is the only absentee for the trip to Heerenveen and is expected to be replaced by either Mathias Jørgensen or Jorrit Hendrix in the line-up. Club captain, Georginio Wijnaldum, after making a return last weekend, will be hoping to make his first start since the 14th September last year in a 2-2 draw with Twente. He may replace Stijn Schaars who is doubtful for this game with a knee injury.

Hakim Ziyech will be missing for Heerenveen and this could hamper the amount of chances created for Bilal Basacikoglu and Alfred Finnbogason. Rajiv van la Parra will return and young left-back Joost van Aken will be pushing for a start at left-back in place of the injured Mitchell Dijks after an impressive substitute appearance last weekend.

This could very well end up in a draw but PSV will press for all three knowing that they need points to try and catch Feyenoord in second for Champions League qualification. There have been Over 2.5 goals scored in 13 of Heerenveen’s last 15 home games in league but to get some value we will try and go one better. Over 3.5 Goals is valued at 23/20 at Bet Victor and I see that as our Best Bet in this one.

BEST BET: Over 3.5 Goals (23/20 – Bet Victor)

NAC-Twente

NAC BREDA vs. FC TWENTE (18:45 BST)

Twente head to Breda to face NAC without suspended duo Rasmus Bengtsson and Luc Castaignos and this may hinder their chances of victory come Saturday evening.

Third-place Twente have only won twice in the last nine games and after falling out of the title race, they know they need to pick up points before they lose the chance to become runner-up and qualify for Champions League football. Their form on the road has majorly contributed to their downfall recently after failing to win in their last five away games, however, their opponents, NAC are also on a bad run and have not won in seven games.

NAC have had some impressive results at home this season including recent draws against the top two, Feyenoord and Ajax. I predicted Twente’s draw on Wednesday at a massive 5/1 and I am going for the draw again at the same price with Bet365.

BEST BET: Draw (5/1 – Bet365)

NEC-Cambuur

NEC NIJMEGEN vs. SC CAMBUUR (18:45 BST)

Cambuur have experienced turmoil over the last seven days which is possibly set to ruin a decent first season back in the Eredivisie.

Head coach Dwight Lodeweges announced on Tuesday that he was to replace Marco van Basten at bitter rivals Heerenveen in the summer and the Cambuur faithful protested the following morning. So much so that Lodeweges resigned with immediate effect and the Leeuwarden side lost their midweek game at Utrecht.

Due to all the upheaval at Cambuur, I can see NEC Nijmegen, sitting second bottom and seven points from safety, winning and pulling away from the definite relegation spot currently occupied by Roda. Nijmegen are desperate for points and English striker Michael Higdon is on form banging in five goals in five consecutive games. I except this run to continue and NEC to get the much needed three points.

NEC to win is being offered at 5/4 with Bet365 and that is the best price for this one.

BEST BET: NEC Nijmegen win (5/4 – Bet365)

GoAhead-Heracles

HERACLES vs. GO AHEAD EAGLES (19:45 BST)

Although Go Ahead Eagles head to Almelo with a poor away record (lost 7 of their last 8 away games in the league), they have a fantastic record against Heracles.

The Eagles of Deventer have been winning at both half time and full time in their last three games at the Polman Stadion in all competitions. After taking a 5-0 thumping from Feyenoord last weekend in Rotterdam, Fooke Booy’s side bounced back with a 2-1 at home to NAC Breda.

Heracles are in similar hitty-missy form after winning back to back games against basement sides Roda and NEC, Jan de Jonge’s men lost at home to Feyenoord but in all fairness put in a strong display and even took the lead against the Rotterdam side.

When looking at the result for this game, I have to opt for the draw. Both sides are not out of the woods as of yet in results to relegation trouble but Heracles (6 points) and Eagles (4 points) do have a little breathing space with four games to go.  I can see this being a cautious affair with few chances and few goals. For the scores to be level at full-time, Bet Victor are offering 3/1.

BEST BET: Draw (3/1 – Bet Victor)

Week 31 Eredivisie Report: Botteghin header gives Groningen win over Zwolle

Header-EredivisieReport

Friday 4th April 2014

PECZwolle-Groningen

PEC ZWOLLE 0-1 FC GRONINGEN

FC Groningen narrowly defeated PEC Zwolle 1-0 on Friday night to boost their hopes of clinching an Eredivisie Europa League Play-off berth, and now hold a four-point cushion with just three league games remaining.

FC Groningen, Eric Botteghin, PEC Zwolle - FC Groningen

Brazilian defender Eric Botteghin netted the game’s only goal 20 minutes against his old club from time to settle matters in the visitors’ favour at IJsseldelta Stadion. After a free-kick was failed to be cleared by Zwolle, the ball fell to Maikel Kieftenbeld on the right-wing and the midfielder’s swung a deep ball into the back post. Botteghin emerged from a pack of players unmarked to head home at the back post on 70 minutes but did not celebrate out of respect for the club where his Dutch football career began in 2007.

It was a poor game with few chances but Groningen’s Marco Bizot was the busier of the two goalkeepers. After a dull first half, Zwolle striker Fred Benson saw his near-post effort beaten away by the visiting keeper. Bizot was called upon again in the closing stages, denying Bart van Hintum at the front post as Erwin van de Looi’s men held out to put secure their third successive league win.

Groningen remain in eighth but are now four points clear from Zwolle in ninth to hold the European play-off place but Zwolle seem to already have a European place next season when Ajax inevitably win the league.

TEAMS

ZWOLLE: Boer, Van Polen, Lachman, Van der Werff, Van Hintum, Drost, Gravenbeek, Klich (Nijland 66), Narsingh (Fernandez 46), Benson, Thomas (Broerse 83).

SUBS NOT USED: Ter Wielen, Karaguonis, Hiwat.

EREDIVISIE WEEK 31 – Friday’s Preview & Betting Tip

Header-EredivisiePreview

After nailing 5/1 and 2/1 shots in midweek, Will Burns returns with his selections for Friday night’s game and like all his tips, you will not see a ‘best bet’ under evens – good luck!

Friday 4th April

PECZwolle-Groningen

PEC ZWOLLE vs. FC GRONINGEN (19:00 BST)

It’s eighth versus ninth on Friday night as FC Groningen travel to Zwolle to face Ron Jans’ side who are looking forward to the KNVB Beker final this month.

Zwolle may have other things on their mind as they have already clinched a Europa League place, as soon as Ajax cement their Eredivisie championship win within the next few games. Edwin van der Looi’s Groningen arrive on Friday in buoyant mood after turning over PSV last Saturday night to end the Eindhoven’s side nine game winning streak.

As PEC Zwolle have only one league win in eight matches, I can see Groningen leaving the IJsseldelta Stadion on Friday evening with at least a point. Jans is without first choice goalkeeper Diederik Boer, ruled out through injury, however the defence will receive a boost with Bram van Polen and Joost Broerse returning from suspension. On the other hand, Groningen have an great record against Zwolle and are undefeated in their last eight matches in all competitions.

For our best bet, I see this game ending all square and Bet Victor are offering a great 5/2 for the draw.

BEST BET: Draw (5/2 – Bet Victor)

Jordy Buijs got the equaliser with a smart free-kick from the edge of the box on 38 minutes. A low grass-cutting effort that sneaked under the wall and left Go Ahead’s Danish keeper Stephan Andersen totally bemused.

Twente-ADO

FC TWENTE 1-1 ADO DEN HAAG

Henk Fraser managed ADO to another fantastic result a 1-1 draw away to FC Twente, who ended the game with just nine men. However, ADO have now gone eight games unbeaten for the first time since 1972.

The hosts took the lead in the ninth minute through Felipe Gutiérrez when he coolly finished a move created by Quincy Promes.

The three points looked to be slipping away out of Twente’s grasp just after the hour mark when Rasmus Bengtsson was dismissed for a professional foul when he bundled over ADO striker Michiel Kramer, who was racing through on goal. The resulting free-kick on the edge of the area by Danny Holla was curled perfectly low around the wall but was tipped onto the post by Twente keeper Nick Marsman.

Luc Castaignos thought he had sealed the win for his side on 75 minutes but had his effort correctly ruled out for offside.

With just nine minutes to go, Michiel Kramer nodded home the all important equaliser from a wonderful cross from right-back Dion Malone.

Twente saw red again before full-time with Castaignos given his marching orders for a harsh challenge on Malone.

Jacob Mulenga poked home the winner on 56 minutes after Steve de Ridder had fed the Zambian striker through on goal. The visitor’s hopes of a comeback were dented midway through the second half when Lucas Bijker was shown red for a rash challenge on Adam Sarota.

Cambuur’s great season could end on a sour note after Tuesday saw manager Dwight Lodeweges announce he would be leaving for Heerenveen at the end of season. The Leeuwarden’s sides fans protested on Wednesday morning which saw Lodeweges resigned later that day. They sit only three points off the Europa League playoff places but with caretaker manager Henk de Jong leading them out for the last four games, this may be out of their reach.

Week 30 Eredivisie Report: Ajax close in on another championship

Header-EredivisieReport

Once again it seems Ajax’s will be lifting the Eredivisie title soon after handing FC Twente a 3-0 defeat today to put Frank de Boer’s side eight points clear at the top with just three games to go.

Sunday 30th March 2014

Feyenoord-GAE

FEYENOORD 5-0 GO AHEAD EAGLES

Even without top scorer Graziano Pellè, Feyenoord managed to hit five past Go Ahead Eagles to move themselves into pole position for the Champions League qualification slot.

Feyenoord, Lex Immers, Feyenoord - Go Ahead Eagles

Lex Immers got the scoring underway with an excellent powerful low drive from his right foot that beat Go Ahead keeper Stephan Andersen at his near post. The 45,000 inside De Kuip were as loud as usual and push their team on.

However, the visitors should have been level on 20 minutes when a Jop van der Linden free-kick had the beating of Feyenoord stopper Erwin Mulder, but unfortunately for the Eagles defender the post kept the ball out.

Feyenoord search for the second goal but they had to wait until 49 minutes. Ruben Schaken crossed in from the right wing and Tony Vilhena leaped above everyone to head past Andersen to double the lead.

It was three in the 64 minute with Jean-Paul Boëtius scoring his ninth of the season. Attacking on the right-wing again, Schaken and Immers linked up well for the latter to put the ball on the plate for Boëtius to tap home. De Kuip erupted knowing that their side had cemented the victory.

Ronald Koeman’s side were not finished and Daryl Janmaat played in young striker Mitchell Te Verde on 77 minutes for the fourth, and finally Ruud Vormer split the Eagles defence with a ball through to Miquel Nelom two minutes from time and the substitute blasted the ball past Andersen to make it five.

This was the biggest win of the season for the Rotterdam side who are now in pole position for Champions League football next term, with a game in hand on the chasing pack. That game in hand will take place in Almelo on Wednesday against Heracles.

Go Ahead look in trouble and are only one point off the drop zone, they will look to Wednesday’s home game against NAC Breda to give them some breathing space off the others in the relegation fight.

Ajax-FCTwente

AJAX 3-0 FC TWENTE

Frank de Boer’s Ajax close in on their fourth successive Eredivisie title and now sit eight points clear of nearest rivals Feyenoord.

Effectief Ajax neemt voorschot op volgende landstitel

Twente should have taken the lead after a quarter of an hour after some great work from Felipe Gutiérrez. The Chilean playmaker surged down the right wing and slipped past Stefano Denswil with ease, and as Luc Castaignos was waiting at the back post for a tap in, the ball to him was not good enough and played in behind him. The majority of the 51,117 inside the Amsterdam Arena breathed a sigh of relief.

After Andreas Bjelland fouled Thulani Serero just before the half hour mark, referee Pieter Vink awarded Ajax a free-kick on the right wing which lead to opening goal. Dane Lasse Schöne whipped in the ball to an unmarked Stefano Denswil to nod the ball towards the goal out of Nick Marsman’s reach.

Twente pressed for the equaliser and look likely to score every time they went forward and they should have been level before the interval. The always lively Quincy Promes spotted a lovely run into the area by Youness Mokhtar. When the midfielder received the ball, the angle was too tight and his effort bounced off the foot of the post. Minutes later, Castaignos overpowered Denswil and was one-on-one with Jasper Cillessen, but the striker blared his shot off the crossbar from close range.

As the second half began, Twente pressed forward looking for that equalising goal but it was Ajax that found the net before the hour mark. Bojan Krkic, on loan from Barcelona, has had a poor season but he had a cracking second half for the Amsterdammers and spied a great run down the right from Ajax full-back Ricardo van Rhijn. The defender collected the ball and laid in Lasse Schöne in the middle to tap home with ease.

Seven minutes later, the Spaniard Bojan Krkic clinched the win for Ajax with an excellent goal. With Twente on the back foot, trying to find that defensive cover whilst still attacking got it all wrong as the ball came out to Davy Klaassen on the right wing. Klaassen played the ball into Bojan just outside the area, and rather than look for another pass, the young striker blasted a shot past Marsman to make it three.

All in all a great day for Ajax and this win felt like a win from the champions, and after the last few disappointing performances, Frank de Boer will sleep much better this evening. The Amsterdammers are now eight points ahead and have a game in hand on most of their rivals with just four rounds to go. That game in hand will be played on Wednesday night away to relegation contenders RKC Waalwijk.

Cambuur-AZ

SC CAMBUUR 0-0 AZ ALKMAAR

The resilient Cambuur kept the free-scoring AZ Alkmaar at bay to share the points in a goal-less draw.

SC Cambuur, AZ, Ramon Leeuwin, Denni Avdic, SC Cambuur - AZ

AZ missed the chance to leapfrog Heerenveen into sixth but it was the home side should have taken the lead after just five minutes when Elvis Manu hit the side netting with a glorious opportunity.

Dick Advocaat’s side were unlucky not to leave Leeuwarden with the win after Denni Avdic, replacing Aron Johansson in the starting line-up, had a goal ruled out by match official Ed Janssen with twenty minutes to go. AZ were awarded a free-kick on the edge of the box and Donny Gorter lashed a shot into the wall and the ball fell perfectly to Victor Elm who hit a half-volley at goal.

Cambuur goalkeeper Leonard Nienhuis stopped the effort but failed to smother the ball. Central defender Nick Viergever attacked the ball which ricocheted off Nienhuis into the path of Avdic who tapped home the rebound. The referee deemed that Avdic was offside when Elm had took his shot and much to AZ’s chagrin, video replays showed that may have been the case, but it was certainly a close decision. AZ coach Advocaat when ballistic on the touchline protesting furiously with the fourth official.

The sharing of points saw Cambuur stay in 11th well clear of the relegation places and AZ stay in seventh inside the Europa League playoffs.

TEAMS

CAMBUUR: Nienhuis, Droeste, Van der Laan, Bijker, Leeuwin, Van Moorsel (Ogbeche 62), El Makrini, Ritzmaier, Barto (Hemmen 62), Lukoki (Bakker 79), Manu.

Roda-RKC

RODA JC 0-1 RKC WAALWIJK

Jon Dahl Tomasson’s Roda are staring the Eerste Divisie straight in the face now falling to 1-0 defeat to fellow relegation contenders RKC Waalwijk.

RKC brengt Roda JC dieper in de problemen

The only goal of the game came midway through the first half with Romeo Castelen scoring his sixth of the campaign. After receiving the ball inside the area, Castelen faked a shot that made Ard van Peppen slip and turn his back on the ball and the striker drove the ball home past Filip Kurto.

Tomasson’s Roda had their chances to score the equaliser but Berry Powel smashed a great effort on the post and RKC stand-in keeper Arjen van Dijk was in good form saving from Gus Ramos and Guus Hupperts.

As time ticked on, the Roda crowd got restless and just past the hour mark the hosts should have been awarded a penalty by referee Bjorn Kuipers. A corner was whipped in and Prince-Désir Gouano literally rugby tackled striker Krisztián Nemeth down to the ground. The referee and his assistants missed the incident and the French defender got away with it.

RKC keeper Van Dijk was worked for the remainder of the game but Roda could not get the ball past him and it was a poor result for the home side. Roda now sit sixth points adrift from safety and their best chance of survival will surely be trying to move out of the bottom position and into the relegation playoffs.

TEAMS

RODA: Kurto, Ramos, Van Peppen, Letschert, Dijkhuizen (Paulissen 81), Fledderus, Donald (Németh 63), Kali, Sutchuin (Bonevacia 74), Hupperts, Powel.

SUBS NOT USED: Šeda, Ivens, Schet, Lamey.

GOALS: Castelen 22.

BOOKINGS: Beauguel 27, Apau 45.

ADO-PECZwolle

ADO DEN HAAG 1-1 PEC ZWOLLE

In the final game of the weekend, ADO Den Haag and PEC Zwolle played a draw which saw ADO remain undefeated under Henk Fraser but by no means out of relegation trouble yet.

Zwolle arrived in Den Haag buzzing with confidence after reaching the KNVB Beker final in midweek, took the lead after twenty minutes through defender Maikel van der Werff. Stef Nijland whipped in a corner towards the back post and ADO goalkeeper Gino Coutinho misjudged it, flapped, collide into team-mate Gianni Zuiverloon and Van der Werff headed the ball into the empty goal.

The hosts should been level before half-time if it were not for the heroics of Zwolle keeper Kevin Begois. Tom Beugelsdijk met Jerson Cabral’s cross with his head on 40 minutes but the Belgian goalkeeper, diving the opposite way, stuck a leg out to clear it off the line.

Fraser’s side did tie the scoring with a Ronald Alberg wonder goal two minutes later. The midfielder lashed a half-volley inside Begois right-hand post from around 30 yards.

Zwolle should have gained all three points in the dying moments of the game when substitute Fred Benson was given an golden opportunity after Kamehelo Mokotjo had played the striker through on goal. With only the Coutinho to beat, the striker side footed his effort wide of the post much to the delight of the home crowd.

ADO are still just three points off the drop zone and with just four games to go, they will need some more points to feel safe. PEC Zwolle stay in ninth place and with their KNVB Beker final appearance, European football beckons next season if or when Ajax finally clinch the championship.

TEAMS

ADO: Coutinho, Wormgoor, Beugelsdijk, Meijers, Zuiverloon, Holla, Gehrt (Kramer 74), Bakker, Van Duinen, Schet (Wildschut 30), Alberg.

EREDIVISIE WEEK 30 – Sunday’s Preview & Betting Tips

Header-EredivisiePreview

Will Burns returns with his betting tips for Sunday’s games and like all his selections, you will not see a ‘best bet’ under evens – good luck!

Sunday 30th March

Feyenoord-GAE

FEYENOORD vs. GO AHEAD EAGLES (11:30 GMT)

Feyenoord will arrive at De Kuip on Sunday morning knowing that a win over Go Ahead Eagles could take them closer to Ajax who face a tough game at home to Twente.

Ronald Koeman’s only two injury worries are Joris Mathijsen doubtful with a calf problem but John Goossens is set to miss action until the end of April so this should be a very winnable game for the Rotterdam side. The dream of Champions League football next year is very within their grasp, just two points off second placed PSV with a game in hand.

Go Ahead Eagles could do with some points sitting in 15th only four points from the drop zone but only wining twice away from home this season, I cannot see them causing Feyenoord a shock. In fact, the Eagles have been losing at both half time and full time in five of their last six away games in the league. Our best bet would be for Feyenoord to win to nil which is valued at 13/10 at Bet 365.

BEST BET: Feyenoord to win to nil (13/10 –  Bet 365)

Cambuur-AZ

SC CAMBUUR vs. AZ ALKMAAR (13:30 GMT)

AZ Alkmaar and head coach Dick Advocaat have been preoccupied with Europa League and KNVB Beker competition over the past few weeks. They crashed out of the KNVB Cup on Thursday with a narrow 1-0 defeat to Ajax after some shocking refereeing decisions.

Advocaat will have to pick his men back up to face the challenge of the resilient SC Cambuur at the ferocious Cambuurstadion on Sunday. Cambuur have a great home record winning five or last six and AZ’s away form has been woeful with just the solitary win and six defeats in their last eight games away from the AFAS Stadion.

Advocaat will be aiming for the Europa League playoffs and should have enough quality to keep Cambuur at bay or at least match their scoring. Jody Lukoki returns to the Cambuur line-up after suspension and should be a real threat to AZ but I can see the scores ending level at full-time. Betfair have the draw at 13/5 and this looks to be our best price for this game.

BEST BET: Draw (13/5 – Betfair)

Ajax-FCTwente

AJAX vs. FC TWENTE (13:30 GMT)

FC Twente have slim title hopes that could take a boost on Sunday afternoon if they can defeat Ajax on their own turf to move within four points of the leaders, although Frank de Boer’s men have a game in hand.

Ajax are seven points clear of third-placed Twente with just six games remaining and they are not playing at their best after injuries to Siem de Jong and Viktor Fischer have forced De Boer to make changes. However, after Thursday night’s hard fought win over AZ and an excellent free-kick from Lasse Schone the feel-good factor should have returned for the Amsterdammers.

Twente will start with two of the division’s most potent strikers in Luc Castaignos and Dušan Tadić, who boast 26 league goals between them this term. However, the guy supplying the majority of the assists Quincy Promes, is a doubt for Sunday’s game with a calf strain.

With Ajax having faltered slightly, drawing their past two Eredivisie games against SC Cambuur and NAC Breda, Twente will match up against the Eredivisie’s best defence knowing that only a win will keep their title hopes alive. I can see this one being a tight affair which I see Bet Victor are offering 11/10 and it’s a good price for Under 2.5 Goals, which is our best bet of the afternoon.

BEST BET: Under 2.5 Goals (11/10 – Bet Victor)

Roda-RKC

RODA JC vs. RKC WAALWIJK (13:30 GMT)

Jon Dahl Tomasson’s Roda and their Eredivisie status are virtually dead in the water after failing to two away defeats to Heracles and PSV Eindhoven in the last two rounds of games.

Both of these sides are in trouble and in dire need of points. Waalwijk are just two points (27) ahead of Roda (25), with both teams having displayed poor form in recent weeks. Tomasson has lead his side to just one win in the last nine matches, while Erwin Koeman’s RKC have taken a just a single point from a possible fifteen since thrashing FCUtrecht 5-2 in early February.

Both, Roda and RKC will see this is an opportunity to breathe some life into their relegation battle but unfortunately for Roda, I cannot see them scoring as many times as RKC can. Roda have scored just four goals in the last six games as RKC have notched ten. We will look to RKC at 17/5 offered by Bet Victor as our best bet for value.

BEST BET: RKC Waalwijk to win (17/5 – Bet Victor)

ADO-PECZwolle

ADO DEN HAAG vs. PEC ZWOLLE (15:30 GMT)

Ron Jans and his PEC Zwolle will be buoyant after clinching their first KNVB Beker Final in 37 years on Wednesday night but travel to ADO Den Haag knowing that Henk Fraser has lead the home side to an undefeated six game streak since taking over.

That’s right, when ADO looked to doomed to relegation, Fraser has managed them to three wins and three draws in the last six outings and Zwolle are slightly depleted heading into this one with defensive duo Bram van Polen and Joost Broerse are both suspended.

ADO have struggled to keep clean sheets and I think the best bet looks like a ADO win with Both Teams to Score as Fraser men has not kept a clean sheet at home since November. Bet Victor offer 12/5 for this market and that is true value in what I see a great win for ADO.

BEST BET: ADO win with Both Teams To Score (12/5 – Bet Victor)

Week 30 Eredivisie Report: PSV slip as Heerenveen hold Vitesse

Header-EredivisieReport

Saturday 29th March 2014

Vitesse-Heerenveen

VITESSE 2-2 HEERENVEEN

Vitesse missed the chance to jump in to second place as Peter Bosz’s men and Marco van Basten’s Heerenveen shared the points in a hard-fought 2-2 draw in a great game in the GelreDome.

Vitesse, SC Heerenveen, Alfred Finnbogason, Vitesse - SC Heerenveen

Van Basten gave 18-year-old winger Daley Sinkgraven his first start in the same week the players signed new contract with the club replacing Rajiv Van la Parra who was left out of the matchday squad for disciplinary reasons.

The first real chance of the game came when Zakaria Labyad forced  a save from Kristoffer Nordfeldt on 15 minutes, and Valeri Qazaishvili lashed the rebound towards goal but his effort was blasted just wide of the post.

On the half hour, Mike Havenaar notched his tenth of the season after Ronald Achenteh found him free at the back post, and the Japanese striker arrived to tap home.

Heerenveen nearly had the perfect response a minute later when Bilal Basacikoglu surged forward down the left and swung a ball into the area for Hakim Ziyech but Piet Velthuizen pulled off a great stop to preserve his side’s lead. Opposition goalkeeper Nordfeldt was called into action moments later at the other end when Chelsea’s on-loan full-back Patrick van Aanholt smashed a low left foot drive but the big Swede got down to protect his net.

The visitors got the levelling goal through the Icelandic hitman Alfred Finnbogason with a superb goal. Joey van den Berg played the ball into the striker’s feet on the edge of the area, the Eredivisie top scorer strongly held off the challenge of Jan-Arie Van der Heijden, kept his composure and fire into the goal.

After the half-time team talks, Bertrand Traoré replaced Havenaar after the Vitesse goalscorer had fallen awkwardly on his ankle midway through in the first half.

The visitors grabbed the lead just before the hour mark after some great work from young substitute Joost van Aken, after being one the pitch for less than two minutes. The left-back surged down the wing and beat Achenteh to cross in for Bilal Basacikoglu to rise above Van Aanholt to head past Velthuizen.

Another substitute brought the hosts back level, Chelsea midfielder Bertrand Traoré with a great finish in the 67th minute after being put through on goal by fellow Chelsea team-mate Christian Atsu.

Both sides pressed for the winning goal but both keepers saved their team. At first, Finnbogason looked certain to score ten minute from time but Velthuizen got in front of the striker’s close range effort. Meanwhile, with just a minute remaining, Nordfeldt had to tip over a Traore free-kick.

The draw helped neither team although Vitesse move up into second at the expense of PSV as Heerenveen stay in sixth.

TEAMS

VITESSE: Velthuizen, Achenteh (Vejinovic 82), Mori, Van der Heijden, Van Aanholt, Pröpper, Qazaishvili, Labyad, Atsu (Djurdjevic 73), Havenaar (Traoré 46), Piazón.

NEC-Heracles

NEC 1-2 HERACLES

The already relegation threatened NEC Nijmegen suffered a last minute defeat to ten man Heracles to stay four points adrift of safety but have played more games than all the other clubs in the relegation battle.

Heracles geeft NEC in slotseconde nieuwe klap

The hosts opened the scoring on 20 minutes as Englishman Michael Higdon notched goal number fourteen of the Eredivisie campaign. Higdon skipped past Heracles keeper Remko Pasveer to finish into the vacant goal.

The equaliser did not arrive until the 80th minute with Australian Jason Davidson making the NEC Nijmegen pay for not clearing a cross. A few minutes later, the visitors were down to ten men as Mike te Wierek was shown his second yellow card by referee Kevin Blom for a bad tackle on Søren Rieks.

With the game heading to a draw, Heracles substitutes Matthew Amoah and Iliass Ben Hassini combining to steal the points. Ben Hassini whipped in a ball to the back post and Amoah was on hand to nod the ball past Dennis Gentenaar in goal.

Heracles have climbed up to tenth in the league standings with the positive results, however for NEC, it’s looking highly likely that the Nijmegen side will be at least participating in the relegation playoffs come the end of April.

PSV-Groningen

PSV 2-3 FC GRONINGEN

After an eight-game winning streak, PSV Eindhoven were defeated for only second time this season at the Philips Stadion, 3-2 by FC Groningen.

FC Groningen profiteert van zwak verdedigend PSV

With Philip Cocu sidelined for the rest of the season after an operation midweek to remove a benign tumour from his back, his assistant Ernest Faber led the PSV team out for the first time. The team were boosted with Georginio Wijnaldum’s return as he had been out of action since September with a back injury.

PSV exploded out of the blocks and made Groningen pay for a defensive error within the first two minutes. After Maikel Kieftenbeld had gave the ball away, goalkeeper Marco Bizot rushed out to punch the ball away from Jürgen Locadia’s path, the quick thinking masked-man Memphis Depay acrobatically chipped the ball towards goal from outside of the box to make it 1-0.

Two quick fire goals not only got Groningen back in the game but saw them take the lead. After a good run from Filip Kostic on 18 minutes, the Serbian rolled the back to Richairo Zivkovic inside the six-yard box for the youngster to tap home his eighth goal of the season.

In the 20th minute, Filip Kostic robbed PSV defender Karim Rekik of the ball in his own area and fired past Jeroen Zoet to make it 2-1 with two goals in two minutes. The Philips Stadion and the PSV players were shell shocked.

The scores were level at the half-time break as PSV were handed a lifeline on 37 minutes. Bryan Ruiz earned his side a penalty and Jürgen Locadia sent the spot-kick low to Bizot’s right and into the bottom corner to make it 2-2.

However, PSV did not go onto to win the game even though they boasted much the possession and only 64 minutes, Tjaronn Chery hit a free-kick that missed everyone and nestled into Zoet’s goal to give his side the three points.

As Edwin van de Looi and Groningen celebrated, PSV sulked as this was a bitter blow to their chances of Champions League qualification for next season.

EREDIVISIE WEEK 30 – Saturday’s Preview & Betting Tips

Header-EredivisiePreview

After nailing the draw at 13/5 in last nights game, Will Burns returns with his betting tips for the three Saturday evening’s game and like all his selections, you will not see a ‘best bet’ under evens. If you have a punt on these three in a treble, it will pay a massive 50/1.

Saturday 29th March

Vitesse-Heerenveen

VITESSE vs. HEERENVEEN (17:45 GMT)

Vitesse face one of their bogey teams in Heerenveen in Saturday’s first game. The Friesland club are undefeated in 13 of their last 14 away matches against the Arnhem side in all competitions.

However, this is a game that Vitesse needs to collect all three points to stay in race for second place and after last week’s defeat to FC Groningen, Peter Bosz will have to quickly pick his men up. Meanwhile, Heerenveen threw away a two-goal advantage to draw at home to NEC last weekend so Van Basten will look for a better performance in Arnhem.

The hosts have problems is defence with Kelvin Leerdam and Guram Kashia suspended and Frank van der Struijk struggling with a hamstring pull, Bosz will have to ring out the changes in his back four. The likes of Hakim Ziyech and the Eredivisie’s top scorer Alfred Finnbogason will look to take advantage.

Heerenveen have Marten de Roon suspended but other than that should be full strength and well equipped to full off a shock in Arnhem. Betfair Sportsbook are offering 9/2 for a away win and that is our best bet.

BEST BET: Heerenveen to win (9/2 – Betfair)

NEC-Heracles

NEC NIJMEGEN vs. HERACLES (18:45 GMT)

Relegation troubled NEC Nijmegen’s season went from bad to worse on Wednesday after doing so well to reach the semi-finals of the KNVB Beker only to be knocked out 2-1 by PEC Zwolle courtesy of an error from goalkeeper Dennis Gentenaar.

NEC have been unlucky with their stoppers as of late with Gentenaar only making a return to the side a few weeks ago after Karl-Johan Johnsson was dropped due to similar performances. Needing points desperately Anton Janssen’s side host 12th place Heracles who themselves are not out of the woods when it comes to relegation to the Eerste Divisie. The visitors are on 33 points, just six points ahead of the bottom three and could easily get dragged into those bottom three spots.

NEC have failed to win nine of their last ten matches in Eredivisie, however, they have just been defeated once in their last seven at home is heartening. I feel both sides cancelling each other out here and providing a result that neither team would like. Our best price in this one is at Bet Victor who offer 11/4 for the game to end level.

PSV-Groningen

PSV vs. FC GRONINGEN (19:45 GMT)

PSV are on a eight-game winning streak but they head into game number nine without head coach Philip Cocu, as the former midfielder had surgery to remove a benign tumour on his back on Thursday.

There is some good news for the Eindhoven side however, as club captain Georginio Wijnaldum should make the bench after a six-month absence with a back injury. Even without their manager on the sidelines, you cannot look past the in-form PSV to take all three points.

Groningen are without Michael de Leeuw and Tom Hiariej with young prodigy Richairo Zivkovic also doubtful for the trip to Eindhoven with an ankle injury that will be assessed before kick-off. Although Santiago Arias is doubtful for the home side, Joshua Brenet can fill in with Jetro Willems returning, the PSV defence should be so strong that Groningen will have great trouble in breaching. And with Memphis Depay and Jürgen Locadia on fire at the moment, I see PSV winning and keeping a clean sheet. Best bet is PSV winning to nil valued at 29/20 at Bet Victor.
