EREDIVISIE BET OF THE WEEK: Ajax to find it easy in Groningen

FC GRONINGEN vs. AJAX

Hitachi Capital Mobility Stadion | Sunday 4th October 2020 | 11:15 GMT

UK TV – Premier Sports 2

Ajax have won three in three so far in the Eredivisie and Will Burns sees that continuing on Sunday morning.

Kudus Mohammed sets up match-winner for 10-man Ajax against Vitesse - Ghana Latest Football News, Live Scores, Results - GHANAsoccernet
Antony and Mohammed Kudus have been impressive so far for Erik ten Hag’s Ajax.

The Amsterdammers, with the maximum nine points, had enough quality to see off the challenge of Vitesse last weekend, despite being down to ten men for the second half.

Defender Edson Alvarez was dismissed just before the break for a what was deemed a dangerous foul on Luis Openda. However, a goal from Brazilian wonderkid Antony grabbed all three points for Ajax after some great link-up play between the Brazilian and fellow newcomer Mohammed Kudus.

The pair have been a revelation in Erik ten Hag’s side so far and personally can’t wait to see them match up with the likes of PSV and Feyenoord, as well as Ajax’s upcoming Champions League mouthwatering ties against FC Midtjylland, Atalanta and Liverpool.

The hopes of FC Groningen were high in pre-season after signing Dutch legend Arjen Robben, however the 37-year-old went off injured in the opening game and they have failed to get to grips with the league this year.

They fell to a 3-1 defeat to PSV, before squeezing past ADO 1-0 and FC Twente stuck another three past this last weekend in a 3-1 defeat. I see Ajax pushing the Trots van het Noorden to the limit and we could easily see the Amsterdammers stick three of four past goalkeeper Sergio Padt.

PREDICTION

I cannot see anything but an win for Erik ten Hag’s men and with some ease. We need them to win by two clear goals (or more) for out bet here with is best priced at Boyle Sports, as of time of writing.

Eredivisie Saturday – Double Dutch Betting Tips

After being let down last week by Willem II (not scoring against Heerenveen, but managed to bang five in mid-week! Grrrr!), Will Burns has picked himself up, dusted off and selected a ‘Double Dutch’ bet for this weekend’s games.

VITESSE vs. SPARTA ROTTERDAM

Gelredome | Saturday 19th September | 17:45 GMT

Vitesse got off to great start last weeknd with an opening day 1-0 win away to relegation favourites RKC Waalwijk. Their opening home game see Henk Fraser’s Sparta Rotterdam roll into Arnhem and the head coach has a good record against Vitesse, a team he managed in 2016 for two years.

In the past six head-to-head clashes with the Vitas, he racked up two wins and three draws, losing just once, however it is goals is where we are looking for part one of the Double Dutch, because of course my motto is… HISTORY MEANS NOTHING!

On week one, Sparta hosted Ajax and alhough they were defeated 1-0 (and the Amsterdammers were down to ten men in the first half), it was a valiant performance that could have seen the oldest club in the Netherlands.

Sparta forced 14 shots at Andre Onana in the Ajax goal, although only three landed on target, but this included eight shots inside the area. They managed to create the chances and I see them creating many against Vitesse on Saturday night.

Vitesse on the other hand managed to get six of their 17 shots on target and hit the back of the net with one. At home, at the Gelredome, despite minimal fans or not… they should see plenty chances too.

I predict a shootout!

PREDICTION

We don’t have much of a dataset to go off but I think this is a good play. Vitesse conceded a goal in all but one of their pre-season games, while scoring in each one, and they played seven of them. As for Sparta, Henk Fraser’s men scored and conceeded in four of their last four warm-up games.

I can see both notching here.

Both Teams to Score (1.61 at bet365)

PSV vs. FC EMMEN

Phillips Stadion | Saturday 19th September | 19:00 GMT

I really like this game for goals on Saturday evening as PSV Eindhoven, under Roger Schmidt face FC Emmen in their opening home game in Eindhoven.

FC Emmen were a proper Jeckyl and Hyde last weekend, going 2-0 up at home to VVV-Venlo then forgot how to defend conceding five losing 5-3 by the full-time whistle was blown.

Anyone thinking FC Emmen can contain Donyell Malen, Cody Gakpo (read more about him here) and youngster Noni Madueke, who is set to start now that Sam Lammers has secured his move to Serie A side Atalanta, are mad. I can see PSV dominating in this encounter, winning by a few goals.

PREDICTION

Emmen conceded five last weekend at home to VVV-Venlo. PSV are back at the Philips Stadion in Roger Schmidt’s first competitive game, I see the lads from Eindhoven smashing the underdogs for a few goals but let’s play safe and take -1 on the handicap.

If PSV win by two clear goals, we win.

PSV -1.5 (1.55 at Bet365)

Week two of Double Dutch. Let’s see if the two picks below romp in this weekend. it is best priced at bet365, good luck if you’re betting and most of all, enjoy the games.

Eredivisie Bet Of The Week: Back PSV’s Cody to continue form against Emmen

Welcome to a new feature, the Eredivisie Bet Of The Week. Will Burns selects his best bet for the weekend’s action and we take our first venture into the goalscorer markets.

PSV vs. FC EMMEN

Phillips Stadion | Saturday 19th September | 19:00 GMT

So PSV pulled off a great result away to FC Groningen last weekend and will be looking to do a carbon copy to last campaign where they went nine games without defeat in the league, winning seven.

This weekend they face a home opener against FC Emmen and last weekend they conceded five goals at home to VVV-Venlo so I can see PSV breaching the Emmen with ease on Saturday evening (7pm BST kick-off)

One man that has impressed me since he was a youngster in the U19’s and Jong PSV is Cody Gakpo and what a start to the season he has made. The winger scored a double in last week’s 3-1 win and in pre-season scored four in five warm-up games against FC Uerdingen, Vitesse, Eintracht Frankfurt and Hertha Berlin.

I looked at the goalscorer markets and Bet365 have him priced up at a high 2.60 to score anytime. Get on that for our Eredivisie Bet of the Week.

Eredivisie Saturday – Double Dutch Betting Tips

It’s finally here!  The new Eredivisie is set to get underway this afternoon with a barnburner at the Abe Lenstra Stadion as Heerenveen take on last years’ highflyers Willem II. Will Burns has picked his ‘Double Dutch’ bet for tonights game.

SC HEERENVEEN vs. WILLEM II

Abe Lenstra Stadion | Saturday 12th September | 17:45 GMT

Ahhh yes, we have football back and I see Heerenveen-Willem II meeting as a good start to the affairs.

Heerenveen have strengthened this week by bringing in Polish centre-back Pawel Bochniewicz from Gornik Zabrze for around £1.26m, using some of the funds that CSKA Moscow provided for Chidere Ejuke earlier this summer. Additionally, they brought in German-Brazilian left-winger Oliver Batista Meier on loan from Bayern Munich to fill Ejuke’s boots.

Heerenveen’s new lads – Oliver Batista Meier and Pawel Bochniewicz

Bringing back Henk Veerman to the club is a bonus for Johnny Jansen’s side. Last season, he notched 11 goals in 22 games last year for St. Pauli in the 2. Bundesliga. Standing at 6ft 5inches, he is a handful to defenders and won an average of 3.6 headed duels per game. With Mitchell van Bergen (profiled in our season preview) on the wing, big Henk should see some crosses coming his way often.

Willem II powered up to fifth in the division last year under Adrie Koster mainly due to the success of Greek striker Vangelis Pavilidis. He bagged in 11 goals in the 2019-20 curtailed season and is always worth a shout to get a goal for the Tilburgers.

Koster’s mind in this match may be elsewhere as on Wednesday evening, they have a tricky Europa League qualifying tie at home to Progress Niedercorn of Luxembourg. Koster stated earlier this week that his side were “ready for competition” but his treatment table is full with wounded players at this time.

New signings, Kwasi Okyere Wriedt and Leeroy Owusu both nursing long-term injuries and Driess Saddiki only returned to training this week. Koster has also declared to the press this week that Justin Ogenia, Rick Zuijderwijk and Dylan Ryan are not match-fit and may miss todays’ game.

This leaves his side depleted in a game I would have possibly predicted them to win.

PREDICTION

Pre-season did not look good for sc Heerenveen losing all six of their warm-up games, however they were lacking defenders and now they have them installed into their squad. But the new central defensive partnership will take time to gel so I do see Johnny Jansen’s men conceding.  In attack, with van Bergen, van der Heide, Batista Meier and big Henk Veermen they have the talent to score. Let’s add Both Teams to Score to our Double Dutch bet.

Both Teams to Score (1.67 at Bet365)

Derksen haalt uit: 'De leiding van Feyenoord wordt doodmoe van Dick Advocaat' | VoetbalPrimeur.nl
Dick Advocaat possibly enters his final season in management – but we’ve said that every season for a while.

PEC ZWOLLE vs. FEYENOORD

MAC³PARK stadium | Saturday 12th September | 19:00 GMT

I talked in the season preview about how I think PEC Zwolle could do with some bodies to help their campaign this year. Especially at the back, I think they look weak and well underprepared.

Some business has been completed during the summer with attacking midfielder Jesper Drost came home after a spell at Heracles.  He will be joined in the middle of the park by Rico Strieder who arrived from FC Twente and the highly-rated Slobodan Tedic was borrowed from Manchester City to take the burden off Mike van Duinen and Reza Ghoonchannejhad in attack.

Their opponents, Feyenoord still have 72-year-old Dick Advocaat at the helm, in which should be his last season… possibly. The Rotterdammers are well equipped to mount a serious title challenge and in the pre-season games they looked incredibly impressed defeating a strong Borussia Dortmund side 3-1.

The addition of Bryan Linssen is a great one for Advocaat. Linssen is an experienced goalscoring stalwart, scoring 88 goals in 278 Eredivisie games, he knows where the net is and he could very well beat last year’s total of 14.

PREDICTION

PEC Zwolle are too weak. I see nothing but a Feyenoord win. Enough said.

Feyenoord to win (1.70 at Bet365)

So our first official bet of the season is here and it’s the first Double Dutch of year. Take the below two picks in a double (best priced at bet365) and enjoy the games.

Eredivisie Betting: Stam’s underdogs could bite Feyenoord

Header-EredivisiePreview

The team of Will Burns and Steve Davies already hold massive profits of £81.75 from 18 bets this season and Will looks to add to the pot in Jaap Stam’s bow as PEC Zwolle head coach.

Jaap Stam could see success in his opening game

PEC Zwolle vs. Feyenoord
6.45pm Saturday

Saturday evening marks the debut of Jaap Stam as PEC Zwolle boss as his side faces the stiff competition of Feyenoord at the MAC3PARK Stadion.

During the winter break, Stam has brought three signings to Zwolle to strengthen a squad that lies in 16th place on just 15 points from 17 games. Former Ajax youth Pelle Clement joined from Reading, German striker Lennart Thy returned to Holland after a previous spell with VVV and the 2017 J. League’s Best Young Player award winner, 21-year old central defender Yuta Nakayama joined permanently from Kashiwa Reysol.

Clement failed to make an impact at Reading, as the attacking midfielder failed to score a goal in 29 appearances and made only two goals. Stam will be looking to get a vastly improved output from the 22-year-old.

German forward Thy scored eight goals in 34 VVV appearances last term

Lennart Thy managed to notch eight goals in 34 outings for VVV in the last season and Stam will be aiming for the 6ft centre-forward to take the goalscoring burden off Mark van Duinen, who has only hit the back of the net four times this season.

Japanese defender Nakayama is looking to improve under his new boss and also look to grab a few goals himself after notching three in 19 in the J-League last season. He was quoted this past week in saying: “In his era, the manager was quite the defender, so I want to learn from him in that department. On the other hand, I also want to impress him with my attacking play.”.

After watching his style of play at Reading, I can see Zwolle frustrating the Rotterdammers with Stam’s emphasis on possession-based football and they could easily grab themselves a point or even all three.

In the Eredivisie this season, Feyenoord have failed to win in five of their eight away games and will struggle to name a strong defence with a host of first-teamers missing. Ridgeciano Haps, Eric Botteghin and Jeremiah St. Juste will all sit out due to injury and Bart Nieuwkoop is suspended. Although with the quality of Robin van Persie, Steven Berghuis and Jens Toornstra in the attacking third, they have the weapons at their disposal to expect a win.

However, I think at a price of 2.43 at 888Sport, the Zwolle/Draw Double Chance is worth sticking a fiver on in a game where Jaap Stam will have his side organised and fully motivated to try and make a good start under his leadership.

Team news
PEC Zwolle
Stam goes into his first game with Denis Genreau, Gustavo Hamer, Dico Koppers and Gianluca Scamacca set to miss out due to injuries and goalkeeper Diederik Boer is serving a suspension. New signings, Clement, Nakayama and Thy could make their bow.

Feyenoord
Head coach Giovanni van Bronckhorst is without Bart Nieuwkoop (suspension) and Eric Botteghin, Ridgeciano Haps, and Jeremiah St. Juste are ruled out with injuries.

Eredivisie Betting: Lets back goals to boost our profits

Header-EredivisiePreview

Will Burns (with a little help from Steve Davies) cleaned up last night in the Eerste Divisie nailing two out of two bets for a profit of £31.00 off the MVV-Go Ahead match. Now that the football season is in full swing and new signings are settling in, here’s a treble for Saturday and Sunday’s Eredivisie.

robin van persie

There’s three shorter prices than I normally tips today but if we combine them we nearly get £45 back from a £10 stake.

First off, I see goals aplenty in the VVV-Venlo vs. SC Heerenveen (Kick Off 17.30BST) match tonight. I feel this will be a very open game with chances at both ends throughout the 90 minutes. Last time out, Jan Olde Riekerink’s Heerenveen hosted Feyenoord in an eight-goal thriller that ended in the Friesland side losing 5-3 to the Rotterdammers. Week before that was a valiant 1-1 draw at home to Vitesse, which could have easily seen more goals with Vitesse having 23 goals attempts. The opening week saw Riekerink’s side beat PEC Zwolle 3-2 and again the opposition saw 18 chances throughout the game. I see VVV experiencing similar joy against the Heerenveen defence as well as taking some punishment themselves. I side more with the Heerenveen win rather than the draw or a home win but let’s play it safe and have a dabble on Over 2.5 Goals.

Similar thoughts in the next game but I am unsure of the striking abilities of either side as ADO Den Haag visiting Excelsior on Saturday evening at 18.45BST. In the last six home games in all competitions, Excelsior has seen goals at either end. In all three league games for ADO so far, they have see goals in both ends in all three outings. I see Both Teams to Score as our best chance of profit in this game so this is my second entry in the treble.

Mitchell van der Gaag’s NAC Breda have not started the season well and face a daunting trip to De Kuip on Sunday afternoon (15:45BST) for our final tip. Despite a decent 3-0 win at home to De Graafschap two weeks ago, they suffered a 2-0 home defeat to Excelsior last weekend. AZ Alkmaar pasted them 5-0 on the opening day and I see more of the same on the Sunday in Rotterdam. Feyenoord after an initial blip in the league, a 2-0 defeat away to De Graafschap, have looked unstoppable ever since. Smashing Excelsior 3-0 in the first home game of the season and then putting five past Heerenveen, as earlier mentioned. Feyenoord -1 on the handicap rounds out our treble.

Good luck if you’re betting!

Eredivisie: PSV to extend their perfect start against PEC Zwolle

Header-EredivisiePreview

Defending Eredivisie champions PSV travel to Zwolle to face PEC on Saturday and Will Burns provides his selections in a match that he sees the Eindhoven side dominating.

dante rigo

PEC Zwolle vs. PSV

Saturday, 19:45BST

Spirits will be high in the PSV camp after surviving a late scare in Belarus on Tuesday night against BATE Borisov in the Champions League playoff. PSV were leading 2-1 in the majority of the second half before former Arsenal and Barca midfielder Aleksandr Hleb notched an equaliser in the 88th minute. However, young striker Donyell Malen went straight up the other end with a minute left on the clock to clinch the 3-2 victory. This places Marc van Bommel’s side in good stead to progress in Wednesday’s second leg.

My selection is PSV to be winning at half-time and full-time mainly due to fact that Zwolle have been defeated this way in five out of their last seven league games. But also PEC, now under the tutelage of John van’t Schip, have looked horrendous in their opening two games. Defeated 2-0 last week by FC Utrecht also suffered a 3-2 loss on the opening night of the league against ten-men Heerenveen.

In addition, PSV have found the net before half-time in all three games this season. They have also have been victorious in their last seven outings against PEC Zwolle in all competitions so despite whether or not they have one eye on the big European tie vs. BATE on Wednesday, I can’t look past them to walk away from Zwolle with another three points.

Recommendation

Team news
PEC Zwolle
Midfielder Kenneth Paal (on-loan from PSV) cannot play against his parent club but new signing Ouasim Bouy is in the squad. Bouy comes in from Leeds United and it is third time on-loan to Zwolle.

PSV
Van Bommel may rest some players ahead of Wednesday’s tie but more likely he will reduce their playing time. Last week against Fortuna Sittard, he kept the same starting eleven despite a Champions League tie a few days later.

Key stat
PEC Zwolle have been losing at both half time and full time in five of their last seven matches.

EREDIVISIE: Expect goals in the ADO-Fortuna clash

Header-EredivisiePreview

Week three of the Eredivisie is already upon us and Will Burns sees Friday Night Voetbal providing a goal fest that we can take advantage of.

Andrija Novakovich

ADO Den Haag vs. Fortuna Sittard

Friday, 19:00BST

ADO Den Haag find themselves in the bottom three after two rounds of fixtures however, their opponents on Friday, Fortuna Sittard only fair two places and one point better. This match is not going to be barnburner right? Wrong. I can see goals and here’s my reasoning.

Fortuna impressed last weekend in a narrow 2-1 defeat at home to PSV. Club legend Marc van Bommel was the opposing manager and admitted his side were ‘fortunate’ to claim the win. the defending Eredivisie champions ended up snatching the three points due to a Dante Rigo last minute strike. USA international Andrija Novakovich (on loan from English Championship side Reading) placed home the equalising goal for Fortuna after falling behind to a Hirving Lozano opener.

In their opening game they clinched a point away to ten-man Excelsior in a match that they were more than capable of winning, forcing five shots on goal in the second half.  For ADO, they have been haemorrhaging goals and I can see Fortuna breaching their defence. Den Haag’s opening game ended in a bit of history. It was FC Emmen’s first ever Eredivisie game in which they won their first game by two goals to one.

ADO ended up 2-0 down before half time and things did not improve in week two. A travel to Almelo proved to have an eventful first half also as ADO were 3-2 down at the break. They finished the game 4-2 losers and I can see more goals flying in on Friday night. ADO are capable of scoring goals and conceding and they are the keys in my selection in this one. Back Both Teams to Score with Over 2.5 Goals, this is my selection to get us back to winning ways.

EREDIVISIE Betting Tips: Matthijs de Ligt to fire Ajax to victory

Header-EredivisiePreview

Still holding a decent profit after a small midweek loss, Will Burns presents his selections for week two of the Eredivisie season.

matthijs de ligt ajax

VVV-Venlo vs. Ajax

Saturday, 17:30

Following PSV’s 4-0 demolition of FC Utrecht on the opening weekend, Ajax head south to Venlo to face VVV and Erik ten Hag’s team know that they cannot afford any slip-ups. Their bitter rivals from Eindhoven already hold a two-point lead over the Amsterdam giants after just one round as Heracles held de Godenzonen to a 1-1 draw last Saturday.

The Amsterdammers will need to close the gap in what should be a competitive race for the Eredivisie this season, and what a better way to start that by defeating Venlo on Saturday teatime.

VVV-Venlo experienced a better first round of games as they scraped a narrow 1-0 win away to Willem II. Maurice Steijn’s side were well organised but absorbed a lot of pressure from The Tricolores but goalkeeper Lars Unnerstall was superb keeping a clean sheet. The German did so well he claimed a place in our Team of the Week. Willem II’s force showed in the statistics having 17 shots to VVV’s six and claiming 13 corners to VVV’s two.

Anyone who witnessed Ajax’s Champions League 3-0 victory against Standard Liege on Tuesday night cannot be anything but impressed. It was a dominating performance that should have seen more goals and we saw young defender Matthijs de Ligt showing his worth with his second headed goal in two matches from a corner.

Ajax will press VVV and I see a lot of corners raining in and if so, then De Ligt will trouble the Venlo defence and I think him to score anytime at 9.50 at 888Sport is definitely worth sticking a fiver on.  I can certainly see Ajax racking up two or three goals so my more confident selection is Ajax to win by more than one goal on the Asian Handicap.

Recommended Bet: Ajax -1.5 Asian Handicap – £10 on at 1.94 to win £19.40 at 888Sport

Recommended Bet: Matthijs de Ligt to score anytime – £5 on at 9.50 to win £47.50 at 888Sport/Unibet

 az 5-0

FC Emmen vs. AZ Alkmaar

Sunday, 13:30

Another impressive performance this past week was AZ’s 5-0 drubbing of NAC Breda – this was total domination. AZ outscored NAC an amazing 29-5 on shots and 14-1 on corners and against newly promoted FC Emmen, I could not look past another pasting.

In one of the many shocks of last weekend, Emmen managed to grab a win in their first ever Eredivisie game away to ADO Den Haag by two goals to one. However, although they collected the three points, Emmen looked suspect at defending set-pieces, a trait which I feel AZ can exploit.

I feel AZ could be the team to watch this season. The midfield is crammed with young talent, Guus Til (20), Fredrik Midtsjo (25) and Teun Koopmeiners (20) are all capable of testing the goalkeeper. The full-backs are strong and creative in Thomas Ouwejan (22) and Swede Jonas Svensson (25) and experienced stalwart Ron Vlaar (33) brings the old head to the back line and a good head to set-pieces threats.

AZ to win by at least two goals is my pick. Good luck if you’re betting.

EREDIVISIE Week One Preview and Betting Tips

Header-EredivisiePreview

Will Burns makes his return with three selections for this opening weekend of Eredivisie action.

Image result for psv mark van bommel

PSV vs. FC Utrecht

Saturday, 19:45

We witnessed major change in Eindhoven this past summer as manager Philip Cocu left to take on a new challenge in Turkey with Fenerbahçe. He was replaced by former team-mate Marc van Bommel despite a lack of experience at this level. Last weekend, Van Bommel’s debut did get off to a good start losing on penalties to rivals Feyenoord as the Rotterdammers lifted the Johan Cruyff Schaal.

This weekend, Van Bommel begins the quest to retain the Eredivisie title against FC Utrecht and he will be encouraged by the talent he has inherited in the PSV squad. A major plus over the summer is the decision of Mexican superstar Hirving Lozano to stay in Eindhoven despite impressing at the World Cup in Russia and attraction attention from some major clubs across Europe.

De Boeren have seen success in 21 of their last 22 home matches against Utrecht in all competitions and I predict more the same on Saturday evening with plenty of goals. Utrecht saw masses of goal action on their travels last season, but specifically in 2018 so far as they have seen over 2.5 goals in their last eight away games.

PSV have notched at least two goals in nine of their last 10 games against Utrecht and with attacking talents like Lozano, Luuk de Jong and Steven Bergwijn at their disposal I feel getting on PSV on the handicap is the best bet in this one.

Recommended Bet: PSV -1 Asian Handicap – £10 on at 2.20 to win £22.00 at Paddy Power

Image result for feyenoord 4-0

De Graafschap vs. Feyenoord

Sunday, 13:30

Feyenoord were hammered four goals without reply by Slovakian underdogs AS Trenčín on Thursday night and it will not get any easier when they travel to Doetinchem to face Eredivisie new boys De Graafschap.

An embarrassing defeat in European qualification has not provided Giovanni van Bronckhorst with the best preparation for the new Eredivisie season. The former Arsenal and Celtic man has to contend with the absences of summer signing Yassin Ayoub and last season’s top scorer Nicolai Jörgensen too which will hamper their creation going forward.

De Graafschap will see this as an excellent opportunity to claim a huge scalp and defeat the Rotterdam giants, who start with the inexperienced 20-year-old Justin Bijlow in goal, and they may just have one eye on Thursday’s night return game against Trenčín.

Taking all this into account, the home fans at the Stadion De Vijverberg could be celebrating on Sunday afternoon. It’s long odds but I placing a bet on De Graafschap Draw No Bet at 3/1 is worth a punt.

Recommended Bet: De Graafschap Draw No Bet – £10 on at 4.00 to win £40.00 at 888Sport

Vitesse Arnhem vs. FC Groningen

Sunday, 13:30

Vitesse Arnhem are already three weeks into their new campaign due to the qualifying stages of the Europa League. Leonid Slutsky’s side have successfully dispatched Romania outfit FC Viitorul 5-3 on aggregate and were defeated 1-0 by FC Basel on Thursday night in their first leg of the third round of qualification.

Their opponents on Sunday, FC Groningen head into their first competitive game which surely gives the hosts the advantage, however Vitesse will see the second leg against Basel vitally important financially and may have thoughts elsewhere on Sunday afternoon. Groningen have become draw specialists after claiming just a point in five of their last six away league games and four of those games finished 1-1.

New manager Danny Buijs will be very pleased if his side can leave the Gelredome with a point on the opening weekend and I see that as the most likely result.

FC UTRECHT v AZ ALKMAAR

This game promises one thing at least in my eyes… Goals!

Erik ten Hag is still searching for his first win as Utrecht manager this season and the transfers this week has not helped his cause as one of their players of the season, Bart Ramselaar left for defending champions PSV. AZ Alkmaar had a difficult trip to Serbia on Thursday night in the Europa League qualifier, but came out on top 3-0 winners over Vojvodina, so they may be a tad lacklustre in Sunday’s game.

I am unsure of who could come out on top but I feel both sides have goals in them. Striker Sebastien Haller has been linked with a move to England and Newcastle United this week and his very capable of beating his 19 goals that he notched in the Eredivisie last season. He bagged a goal in the opening day 2-1 home defeat to PSV while converting a penalty last weekend in a 2-2 draw with Heerenveen.

AZ has also experienced near similar results, a 2-2 draw with Heerenveen on the opening day, while they were defeated in a narrow 1-0 win away to PSV. Markus Henriksen, Wout Weghorst and Fred Friday will be the players to watch and Stijn Wuytens, a defensive midfielder, bagged a brace away in Serbia midweek. They are goals all over the pitch for AZ and Over 2.5 with Both Teams to Score market at Bet365 is worth a two point punt at 18/25.

TIP: Over 2.5 Goals with Both Teams to Score (2PT placed on 1.72 at Bet365)

Heracles-Feyenoord

Sunday 21st August 2016 – 15:45BST

HERACLES v FEYENOORD

My pick as an outside bet the league this season was Feyenoord, and so far they are proving me right and have started the season well under Giovanni van Bronckhorst. The opening game was a 5-0 away thrashing of FC Groningen followed by a comfortable 2-0 victory at home to the troubled FC Twente.

Heracles are also undefeated in the first two outings, a 1-1 draw away to newly promoted Roda JC before last weeks confident 3-1 win over Willem II. John Stegeman has kept the majority of the side that finished 14th last year with Iliass Bel Hassani his main star that could aggravate Feyenoord’s defence.

However, I cannot look past Feyenoord winning this game and comfortably. The Rotterdammers looked far too strong for Groningen and Twente and I see Stegeman’s side suffering the same fate. New signing Danish winger Nicolai Jorgensen has been selected as a false nine by Van Bronckhorst and has found the net in both games. Dirk Kuyt, Jens Toornstra, Tonny Vilhena and Eljero Elia will all start with him in a five man strong attack which will prove to be too much for the Heracles defence.

TIP: Feyenoord to win (2PT placed on 1.72 at Bet365)
